Wire and Cable

Contractors need wires and cables for a wide range of applications, such as setting up electrical circuits or installing a thermostat or HVAC product. Project managers need everything from thermal wires for high temperature applications to power supply cords for computers. Electricians also need a supply of wires and cables to keep the electricity running effectively at their locations. From heavy duty metal clad cables for loading docks and large electrical equipment to simple spools of stranded wire for everyday building projects, Grainger has the wire and cable you need for your project.

Answer:
Wire size is dependent on the circuit, type of wire used, and local building codes. You should contact your local building department or a licensed electrician to determine this information.

I'm running a remote load center about 100' away from my main panel. I plan to run 240 VAC split phase A/B on a 50 amp DP circuit breaker. The code table calls for #1 AWG for A & B, No. 2 for the neutral

All the Eaton breakers max out at #6 AWG. Can you purchase an Eaton breaker that will fit my panel and handle the #1 wire?

Answer:
Unfortunately Grainger does not currently stock Eaton breakers, but could potentially quote you if you know what series breaker you are using. NSI Industries does make a pin terminal for the 1/0 wire that would allow you to fit into a #2 AWG lug, which may be easier to find. Please call us at 1-800-Grainger so we can discuss your panel and breakers in greater detail.

We need to understand the type of wire you are installing and how it will be installed to answer your question for 100% accuracy. As an example, NEC Table 310.16 calls for 3 AWG wire without any correction factors taken into consideration. Please call us at 1-800-Grainger so we can discuss your installation in greater detail.
