Well Pumps

Grainger carries the right well pump for your water table regardless of depth. Ground wells in areas boasting a stable, potable water supply near the surface call for a shallow well pump, while a deep well pump can ably draw from water tables up to several hundred feet deep. A submersible well pump can be a more effective solution for pushing greater volumes of pressurized water up from within a deep well, outperforming above-ground deep well pumps with the same size motor. Rely on Grainger to supply the right well pump for your water table.

pump

our pump keeps cutting on every 5 minutes. the main water valve has been turned off and no water comes from the hoses.
the pump still continues to come on every 5 minutes...
when the pressure gets down to 25, it clicks on and brings it up to 50 and cuts off.
it slowly goes back down to 25 and then kicks back on.
now, it doesn't matter if the valve is turned off or on, the pump still kicks on every 5 minutes.

Answer:
Hello coolman,
sound like your pressure tank is water logged, the air space at the top of the tank is gone. So you need to completely drain the tank and let air into it. Or your air bladder is leaking, or your air volume control is not working. The other problem could be your check valve that is in the system is leaking pressure back thru the pump. Regardless you will have to drain the tank and check your air charge in the system.

Hello,
Well pumps in general are rated for on off duty, you have not indicated what pump you are looking at. we do have some that will tollerate long periods of running. But as with all things like these, it will depend on the operation we would need more info..I hope this answers your question, thanks for using Grainger Ask & Answer!

Answer:
Hello,
Well you have a good start but we will need more info, like how fast GPM what type of power do you have. What size pipe you will be using, those kind of things... Otherwise Grainger has about 100 different pumps that would likely work.
So we would need some more info, but that being said we would have a pump that should work.

I need a pump that will withstand a Michigan winter. Currently we have an above-ground pump connected to our stab-pipe. But, each winter we have to remove in order for it not to freeze.

Our growing chicken population will require water all winter (we carried gallons of water last year, which isn't fun at all).

Suggestions?

Answer:
Hello,
It is a very good question, this is a question that will require a simple answer: No there is not a pump that you can install above ground and will work below freezing. You can however freeze protect with enclosures and Freeze protection tape and insulation. You can wrap the pump with freeze protection tape and the line with the same stuff. The only draw back is if you lose power you will loose your pump and lines.

Answer:
Hello,
That is a good question 400' water level that is a 900' deep well? That is a pretty broad range for a well, how much water do you need. That will determine the size of pump HP & Voltage and the number of stages. Without that information I cannot give you a pump, that will fulfill you needs.

I hope that answers your question, thanks for using Grainger Ask & Answer!

Have been using a shallow well pump, but it is not efficient in both bringing the water up the hill and pressurizing my plumbing. I use a storage tank and a second pump but the tank presents possibility of contamination. Am preparing to replace some of my water line, so now would be the time to switch if I am going to do so.
