Answers

Answer:
Grainger has contacted the product supplier and has been advised by them of the following: Brazing aluminum to steel can be done, but requires a special brazing alloy, as well as a fair amount of heat. Generally more than a propane torch can supply. The other issue will be the thickness of the materials involved. The 1/8” steel may not last long after several heating cycles, and at only 1/16” thickness, the aluminum will melt or distort in fairly short order. If the pit is not being used for cooking purposes, you may want to consider using something like ½” rebar for the top grating, but this would require a welder to attach.
