What drill size would I use for a 1/4 14 drill point fastener going through approximately 3/16 aluminum. I would like to retain at least no less then 50% thread size. Thank you.

Answer:
Using a 1/4-20 as a reference here for this, I would experiment using a13/64" diameter twist drill first and then go larger or smaller depending on results.

Answer:
Grainger has contacted the product supplier and has been advised by them of the following: You may want to consider the 4ZP49 cobalt drill bit for your application. Be sure to drill at a low speed, and use a lubricant like the 2C649 to cool the bit and extend its life.

Grainger can get replacement parts for those dies, as well as the die stocks. It will depend on the size of the die, in terms of which cap and guide assembly is needed. Please call your local branch or 1-800-323-0620 for help determining what parts you require.

I need to make a 60 degree, 3/16 deep cut in a hexagon gun barrel for front and rear sights. Do you carry this shape tool bit for metal. I have found the bit for wood in the router section. Would the bit last long enough for cutting metal.
