Answer:
No. We do not have the resources to recycle. Personally I do not know anyone who recycles florescent bulbs. When it is mandatory we will. We should.

The lights will be installed approximately 18' above the barn floor. The barn is approximately 30X40, and is not heated. We are also looking for lighting for our garage, which is a 2 1/2 car garage with approximately a 12' to 14' ceiling.

Answer:
The cheapest and most convenient solution for both the barn and the garage is a simple and cheap 4' T8 fluorescent fixture. I have installed the high bay fluorescent fixtures in a basketball gym at 25' above finished floor and they have worked out great. The best thing about these fixtures is; the lamps and fixtures are cheap, and readily available. If you should choose a HID fixture, for the barn, they are more expensive and they do not turn on instantly like a fluorescent.

Answers

Answer:
Merle, there are many different sized and shaped energy efficient flourescent bulbs (lamps) that Grainger carries. Without more detailed information about the specific type of Flourescent lamps you need, we cannot accurately answer this question.

Is it a Self-Ballasted Screw-in Compact Flourescent Lamp?

Is it a linear 2-foot, 4-foot, or 8-foot lamp? If so, is it a T12, T8 or T5 lamp diameter?

Is it a Plug-In [2-pin or 4-pin] Compact Flourescent lamp which uses a separate ballast?

With a more accurate idea of what type of lamp you are seeking, an answer about "Which is the most energy efficient flourescent bulb [Grainger] carries?" can be better answered.

The source for the answers given by Grainger in Ask and Answer are based on the information provided with the question, which may not be complete or may not apply to other situations, and based on product literature and informational materials, the content of which is provided by Grainger’s product suppliers. All you have to do is change out the ballast and the tombstones(bulb connectors). It may be just as cheap to change the whole fixture. You can get the parts at Grainger or Teche electric.

I need some 2 ft floescent light fixtures, 120V, that can go in a Spiral Freezer. The temp range is from -50F to 160F, and it gets extremely wet in there when they are cleaning. The fixtures that I currently have in there can hold up in the cold conditions, but when the temp gets up in them I have a problem with the covers getting warped from the heat, and then they get water in them and burn up. I've been looking, but can't seem to find what I need. Let me know what you can come up with. Thanks.

Answer:
Not a good idea. Highly Recommend you gut fixture ballast and replace bulbs with 2 Ft LED T8 style bulbs. Would go with 5k spectum. Extremely easy to do and will outperform your current lights in power savings and cold temp issues and lamp replacement costs. If you absolutely are determined to stay with flourescent you should change ballast to outdoor sign ballast suitable for cold temps.

MiniPOD might work for you...

http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/search.shtml?searchQuery=minipod&op=search&Ntt=minipod&N=0&GlobalSearch=true&sst=subset

It has a strong magnetic holder that would adhere well to a steel container.

It's rechargeable so you won't be continually replacing batteries.
