Answer:
Service life for harness and lanyard will be determined by the individual manufacturer of the product. You would need to refer to the instructions on the harness or usually the information can be found on the manufacturer website. Please remember, you need to make sure you are inspecting your hardware and software prior to each use and having a competent person inspect the equipment once a year. If any of the inspections show signs of wear or tear, the equipment must be immediately removed from service. The same is true if the equipment has been in a fall.

Answer:
I perform the testing at our company and had asked a harness maker the same question. They said as long as the harness passes every requirment to remain in service ( which includes having all the required tags still attached and readable ), they can stay in use. About half of our harnesses are 8 years old and are still in good condition, passing all inspection points. The most common thing that will fail an older harness are missing tags or a birdcaging of the webbing.

The longevity of a harness comes down to working conditions, storage, frequency of use, and how the equipment is treated. A harness that is kept clean, not abused, and stored properly when not in use can last a very long time.

Answer:
Grainger "Y" or Twin-Leg Lanyards that are intended to be used as a component of a personal fall arrest system, will all have some type of shock absorbing feature build into the lanyard. This reduces the shock force on the body in the event of a fall.
Grainger does offer a unique product that is used for positioning only that will not have a shock absorbing feature and will have a captive eye in the middle of a traditional 6 foot rope with snap hooks on the ends. This pn# 1D848 is used as a component in a positioning system where there is no need for fall arrest.

Answer:
Typically there are adjustments on full body harnesses that can be made to allow for the worker’s torso length, chest width and leg size. Each manufacturer generally offers some kind of size chart that will relate to size based on weight and height. These charts are specific to the manufacturer's brand and construction of the full body harness, so it is wise to look at the brand of the harness and refer to that same manufacturer's size chart for an idea of harness size to select. Then by using the adjustment features on the harness the wearer can adjust the fit of the harness to their specific body size.
