Bolts

Shop bolts from Grainger for all your fastener material needs. Bolts can secure material by applying pressure from the head of the bolt. Grainger carries eye bolts, which secure material through a circular opening. A threaded rod has a rounded head that allows for a better fit in tight applications and u-bolts have a square rounded edge for round surfaces. Grainger carries a wide selection of carriage bolts in various thread sizes to fasten and secure material.

Answer:
Grainger will have many options for this. The selection will be based on the type of head desired; for example, a flat (countersunk) or pan (low profile, dome). Also for consideration, the possibility of an architect bolt combo, (male and female bolt with specific barrel lengths). In example, part number 5MB81. Please call the toll free number, 1-800-323-0620 for more assistance in selection.

I need to replace the motor mount bolts on my Mercury outboard engine.
The original size of the lower bolts is 1/2"x13x6-1/2", and it takes 2 each.
The original size of the upper bolts is 7/16x14x6-1/2", and it takes 2 each.
They go through solid aluminum bushings and will require nuts in the appropriate sizes and some form of recommended locking medium, either washers or loc-tite.
I need them to be of a strong material and of a material that will not create galvanic corrosion in the aluminum.
Can you help?
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
G.Tate

Answer:
Grainger has contacted the product supplier and has been advised by them of the following: Typically, Mercury motor mount bolts will be a stainless steel alloy with a National Fine thread. Grainger offers 316 grade alloy hex head cap screws, in the ½” diameter but only in a National Course thread pitch. You have indicated the course thread (½”-13). Grainger part number 3AUK8 will be ½-13 X 6 -1/2 long. Grainger does not currently offer the proper length for the 7/16” diameter; the longest we offer will be 3”. The lock nuts may be nylon lock nuts; but that may vary depending specific application. Also recommended is a marine grade anti-seize, Grainger part number 3KE63; to coat the threads; this will hinder the galvanic corrosion. You may want to consider contacting a Mercury dealer/parts distributor, or calling Grainger at 1-800-323-0620. By calling Grainger, we can determine more options with details provided, and may be able to assist you in finding all the correct hardware.

I have heli coiled my engine block with m12 x 1.5 coils and am having a fun time finding the correct bolts.
I was informed in error of the thread spacing and cleaned the old treads with the wrong clean out tap and since have drilled out the holes and heli coiled them back to m12 x 1.5 instead of m12 x 1.75.

Answer:
Unfortunately, Grainger does not currently offer any hex flange metric M12 X 1.75 X 100mm bolts. You may want to consider contacting a company like headbolts.com; and asking for the size you need. Grainger does offer part number 6AE34, M12 X 1.75 X 100mm length, standard hex head with a 10.9 strength class. This will only have 30mm of thread length, and would require a hardened washer. Grainger part number 2WY81 will provide that, this has an outer diameter of 24mm. The OEM head bolts may have a smaller outer diameter on the “flange”; but if not, this may be a possible option.

We have them in Grade 5. Two item numbers to look at are our 4RUZ3 and our plated version 2CE63. If you go onto our website and type in "9/16-18 screw", you will see several more options to view.

Maybe you are referring to what are sometimes known as "mouse eared" or commonly called "Thumb Screws". If you enter, thumb screw, in our search box you will find variations of that hand tighten screw in several sizes.

Grainger will offer a few sizes of hex head cap screw that will be left hand thread. Please consider calling Grainger to obtain more assistance. The phone number will be 1-800-323-0620; from there if you can provide dimensions Grainger can match that to a part number.
