Bearings

Thrust bearing varieties can enable rotation, support and drag and are vital for automotive, marine, and aerospace applications. Ball screw bearings help promote precision in machining, aircraft, robot, and semiconductor production. Needle bearing models employ small rollers to help reduce friction of rotating surfaces. Grainger carries a wide range of bearing typess to fit industrial and commercial applications.

mud motor

I'm building a short tail mud motor. The design part I'm having trouble with is the lower unit. Which basically is a 3/4 in.x 36 in. shaft in a 1 in. ID casing with 3 needle bearings, one at each end and one in the middle. I need a way to handle the linear load created by the prop. I don't know enough about bearings to know what will work best. If you could give me some suggestions that would be great

Thank JW

Answer:
It sounds like you need to address the axial loading of the shaft due to the reverse thrust of the prop. We do have thrust bearings and shaft collars that may solve this problem. I suggest that you give Grainger's Technical Product Support Team a call so we can find that solution for you. 800 472 4643
