Answer:
Grainger has contacted the product supplier and has been advised by them of the following: A type 28 wheel is similar to a type 27, but instead of the grinding surface being parallel to the arbor hole like it is in the type 27, the type 28 angles up and away from the arbor hole. This creates a deeper depression in the 28 than you would find on a 27. Type 28 is generally used for side or corner grinding.

Answer:
A Type 28 wheel has a "hat" shape, almost like a mild bell shape which gives less contact with the work piece. (More recessed in the middle, with the edges doing the work.) It is for corner and side grinding and should not be used for cut-off or notching.

I need to sand a profile to remove .0005" per surface of a dog bone profile shape. OD at the ends is 0.5" but taper down to 0.25" in the center. OAL is 4.5". The material is 300M (similar to 4140) heat treated to 55 Rc hardness. I was thinking a rotary flap wheel style that i can put in a spindle to maneuver about the profile.

What would be available.
