A hand tap from Grainger helps you cut precise threads in wood, plastic and metal to ensure that bolts fit tightly and anchor securely. Hand taps should be selected based on the materials for which you're cutting threads. Consult a drill and tap size chart to ensure that you pre-drill or countersink a hole to the appropriate tap drill size. Choose high-performance cobalt steel taps for cutting threads in particularly hard materials such as steel, cast iron and pre-hardened mold steels. A spiral point tap is best for threading ductile steel, iron, copper, brass and non-metallics. Use a pipe tap for cutting internal pipe threads.
