What is a Green Product?

When shopping on Grainger.com, look for this icon Green Leaf to help you locate products that may help you run a greener facility. Please note that this leaf is intended to help guide our customers to more environmentally preferable solutions and is not meant to represent a certification. Products identified with this leaf fall into two categories of environmentally preferable products—those that are certified by independent organizations and those that have “green environmental attributes.” Our goal is to provide customers with the ability to find products that promote sustainability through reducing energy, conserving water, minimizing waste and improving indoor air quality through green cleaning. In addition to product identification, Grainger has the goal of providing transparency to customers in terms of why products are identified as environmentally preferable, so each individual organization can make their own determination of whether or not certain products meet their defined “green” goals.

Certified Products

There are hundreds of “green” labels in the marketplace today. At Grainger, we have filtered through the Greenwashing and identified those designations that are credible and most relevant to you. These standards are developed by organizations that specialize in setting standards and evaluating performance for products that offer customers an environmentally preferable solution. The specific certification/designation for these products can be found under “Tech Specs” for each item. View an example.

Other Environmentally Preferable Products

While certified products should be your first choice when looking for environmentally preferable items, reputable certifications do not exist for all product categories. However, these products have environmentally preferable attributes that can also help you run a more sustainable facility. Specific information regarding the product’s environmentally preferable attribute can be found by looking at the “Tech Specs” section for each item.
