The fuel gauge lets you know when the battery will die. The batteries last a long time. I have had this driver for several years and it just keeps going. It's small enough to keep in my tool bag. I service HVAC&amp;R equipment and use it for zip screws, panel screws, to drill holes with a multi bit, and turn most any bit you can put in the thing. I rarely pull my big drill/driver out of the truck. I've got it wet, dropped it in the snow and used it in a minus 30 degree freezer with good service. Lighweight and small enough to use in tight places it still has the power to drill into any material.
