After consideration of my particular needs and discussion with different electrical contractors, I elected the portable gasoline powered option. Weighing cost vs. convenience factors I felt the portable was a better choice over the standby whole house system. I had the contractor install a standby switch and effectively have the use of all the systems in my home I will need in the event of a power failure. The XG10000E provides ample power for all my needs and I am prepared to do some power management in the event of a prolonged outage in severely cold weather.
