We get a lot of power outages where I live, about 10 since purchase. Each time it functioned flawlessly, including during the 4 day outage from hurricane Sandy. Although I check the oil regularly, I have never had to add any. Plus, the oil and plug change is recommended every 2 years instead of once a year, which saves on service calls if you don't want to do it yourself. The weekly exercise cycle is flawless, and I was amazed at how quiet the unit operates during this cycle. Because my home is on the waterfront, I selected the aluminum enclosure . . . glad that option was available. Our neighbor (who also has a generac standby generator) kept an eye on the fuel level for us. When we returned home, he said he was stunned at the high efficiency of the generators.
