It is very well made. The unit cools very well and the heat works great. The compressor is very quiet. The only complaint I have is that the fan is a little noisy on low speed. This is a 3 speed unit, but there is a 4th speed on the display that I wish I would have had the option to purchase. All in all it is a great unit, and Friedrich is the brand I see the most in the area where I live. That says a lot. December 16, 2012

Rated 4 out of 5 by Buzz good quality but a bit more noisy than other models I purchased 2 ss12510 units in 1995 and was very pleased with their perfomance; particulary their sound - a nice hum. The front louvers have a tendancy to rattle and constantly need to be reconfigured in order to make the buzzing to stop. September 3, 2012

Rated 3 out of 5 by Monty Expensive and bulky The AC model I purchased seems to be built very well but it's expensive and the front cover make the unit look big in the room. August 20, 2012

Rated 5 out of 5 by Cookie Freidrich Kuhl are superior air conditioners This product is the quietest and most efficient air conditioner that we have ever had. Especially to what it is now!I have the previous Kuhl model of which's control panel has fully programmable schedule fuctions and a time display. A new cooling need came up and since I love the unit I purchased a year ago, I recently purchased the same model thinking i was going to get the same unit as before. NO! I had no idea friedrich "revamped" the kuhl model line until I saw the box when I bought it. Seemed like an upgrade at first given the box says it's fully programmable through wifi connection, awesome right? Wrong. The wi-fi as you've already read Is not available right now and when it will be its going to cost ya. Something the box doesn't mention. To boot, the unit does NOT allow a fully customizable schedule function WITHOUT THE wi-fi ADAPTER! SOMETHING THE PREVIOUS MODEL HAD! AAARRRGGGGGHHH! Like a pirate! ARRGGHHI don't know what I'm going to do since there is nothing friedrich can do until this adapter is released. I feel ripped and this will be the last friedrich unit I buy. By the way, the models I buy cost over $2,000!!!Almost forgot that I had to take it for repairs the moment I got it from a refrigerant leak from a faulty weld. August 12, 2012

Rated 4 out of 5 by Andy Our first Kühl AC Right after installing in our window the ac developed a bad rattle in the front cover, rattle was coming from the airflow louvers. We tried every thing we could think of to stop this annoying vibration to no avail. One day while making an airflow adjustment the louvers fell out on one side, some of the pins were broken. Called customer service and one new front cover was shipped out to replace the broken one. The new cover rattled worse then the old one, looks like a bad design that they need to remedy. We placed some paper towels on the sides of the louvers and that did the trick till the end of the summer. At the start of this cooling season my wife placed some work-out weights on the top of the cover and the annoying rattle went away, Now the AC sound the way it was made to sound (QUIET!!!!!!!!!!!) no more annoying rattle from the front cover. To sum it up, we love this unit it cools our whole house, this is on powerhouse of a unit with some great features. A bit on the pricey side but well worth the money! August 12, 2012

Rated 4 out of 5 by Joseph How All AC's Should Be Built / WHERE is FriedrichLink ? As a longtime Friedrich fan, I was very disappointed when they started outsourcing in the mid 2000's so that they could offer several inexpensive China-Made models and "remain competitive" Thankfully, there were still their premium models which were made in the US of MUCH better grade materials. These Models were, on the average, double the price (and weight) of the foreign made units for the same BTU range and IMO, worth EVERY penny. In 6/2007, I moved into in a pre war apartment building with very small windows (20 1/4" width) in the living room, dining room area. I needed a 12,000 BTU unit to adequately cool it. There was only ONE unit that was both 12,000 BTU's and would fit in the window: The Friedrich X-Star XQ12L10A which at the time was $650. The X-Stars were very sturdy, Made in US units that were based on Friedrich's Q-Star chassis with upgrades and electronic improvements (I had owned an 8,000 BTU Q-Star for 9 years as the primary AC for my NYC Studio apartment with ZERO problems) I have since moved upstairs to a larger apartment, it's 5 years later and the 12,000 BTU X-Star still cools the (even larger) area like a champ. Three years ago, I needed a new AC for the bedroom in my new apartment. The 325 sq ft room has southern exposure, windows on two walls and the apartment is on the top floor making it warmer than average for the square footage. I decided to try one of Friedrich's "cheaper" CP Models... a big mistake. The CPO8E10 ($295) was flimsy, vibrated a great deal (especially the front panel) and was based on a Panasonic design. It lasted 2 1/2 summers before it stopped cooling last week. I had been reading about Friedrich's new KUHL units and I was very impressed with their design and features. There are two types of KUHL chassis, the smaller "SQ" which are again based on the reliable "Q Chassis" and the new "SS, SM & SL" which are larger units. I decided to purchase an 8000 BTU SQ08N10 ($675) and I could not be happier. This model combines the sturdiness of the reliable old "Q chassis" with all new electronics and a beautiful new front panel design. The compressor is virtually silent and there is ZERO vibration (Now how about a 12,00 BTU model in this size) The downside: The timer is ludicrously hard to program and the new, much touted "FriedrichLink" WiFi adapter (Even mentioned on the outside of the box) which will allow you to control your AC from anywhere using your iPhone, is NOT YET AVAILABLE. Also, even at this price point Friedrich felt the need to move production of ALL US made room air conditioners from its San Antonio plant to the company's new facility in Monterrey, Mexico in November 2007. Sigh. August 7, 2012

Rated 1 out of 5 by Ninamolly Poor electronics, poor value Imagine. Many advertised and promised featured do not work; seems the electronics are still under development. August 4, 2012

2 3next>>
