I was a bit concerned about the thin wires and thought they might fail but so far so good. I use the ER38-14F foam ear buds; they are quite comfortable for in ear buds and give a great seal. Seal is critical to sound quality with these earphones. Haven't felt the need for the custom fitted ones. Sound is fantastic.</span> June 4, 2013<meta itemprop="datePublished" content="2013-06-04" /></div><div id='19855335' itemprop="review" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Review"><meta itemprop="itemReviewed" content="Earphones Kit, Mobile Headset" /><span itemprop="reviewRating" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Rating">Rated <span itemprop="ratingValue">2</span> out of <span itemprop="bestRating">5</span></span> by <span itemprop="author">Fergus</span><span itemprop="name"> Great sound engineering, poor product build quality</span><span itemprop="description"> I have been faithful to the Etymotic brand to equip my iPhone for over 10 years and recommended it to many friends at the beginning. The fit and sound quality have always been superlative. However every pair has ended up with the cables fraying and wire cables exposed after about 2 to 4 years of use. The build quality is just not that great. It is not like I am subjecting them to harsh treatment, I store the headphones carefully without twisting the cord, and I am not particularly active when I wear them. So I do not believe I am subjecting them to more than normal wear and tear. But tear they do.I began with the Er.6i Isolator in 2004. Two years later (outside the warranty period) the cable housing split, the wire cables were exposed, people on the other end of the phone complained about echo, and the cable eventually severed.I bought another pair of ER.6is in 2006. Same problem happened again, this time after three or four years. Then I switched to the hf3 in 2010. They only lasted 1 year until the same problem surfaced. That time they were replaced under warranty in 2011.Now here we are two years later in 2013 and again the outer shield covering is worn through, the wires are exposed and I am having to wrap electrical tape around the breaks to keep things together.I love the sound quality and the snug, secure fit of the hf3s, but once the current pair finally break (only a matter of months now given my previous experience), I will sadly not be buying another pair of Etymotics.</span> June 4, 2013<meta itemprop="datePublished" content="2013-06-04" /></div><div id='19855341' itemprop="review" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Review"><meta itemprop="itemReviewed" content="Earphones Kit, Mobile Headset" /><span itemprop="reviewRating" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Rating">Rated <span itemprop="ratingValue">5</span> out of <span itemprop="bestRating">5</span></span> by <span itemprop="author">Earlyalex</span><span itemprop="name"> Not ONLY superb sound, but they also . . .</span><span itemprop="description"> Have to give a big shout for my long time travel essential: etymotic noise blocking earbuds. As a frequent traveler, I'm interested in keeping the noise level of a plane down to a minimum (including crying babies and noisy talkers) . While my HF3s are not noise canceling, they work better than any noise canceling product I've tried. In my opinion, there is no bud that compares to Etymotic buds.</span> June 3, 2013<meta itemprop="datePublished" content="2013-06-03" /></div><div id='19855337' itemprop="review" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Review"><meta itemprop="itemReviewed" content="Earphones Kit, Mobile Headset" /><span itemprop="reviewRating" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Rating">Rated <span itemprop="ratingValue">5</span> out of <span itemprop="bestRating">5</span></span> by <span itemprop="author">andgeomit</span><span itemprop="name"> These headsets sound great and isolate the outside noise amazingly.</span><span itemprop="description"> I first bought a pair of ety's from the ultimate buds website. I believe I got their address from iLounge, who gave their headphones a great review (er6i). When I could no longer get them I went right to the Etymotic website to find out what I could replace them with. I inquired what I was looking for and the customer service response was immediate. I have since owned the hf3 headsets for a couple of years and I use them sanding/refinishing floors and doing carpenty work. They are amazingly comfortable and under loud machines they isolate the outside noise so I can hear my music/podcasts. On the streets of NYC there are tons of loud noises like buses and subway trains. When I used other earbuds, I would have to turn the volume way up to hear my music or podcasts. With the isolating of the etymotics I can leave the volume very low and hear everything. I'm pretty sure this will significantly help prevent hearing loss that others are surely going to suffer. Also, the hf3 in particular with my iPhone is great. I can control the volume, music, and answer calls without taking the phone out of my pocket. The microphone also works really well. I can just talk while it hangs in its normal position. I can talk while both hands are completely free. That being said, there is one major problem with these that I have also suffered with etymotics in the past. The cable is incredibly fragile. It will eventually wear out. If you handle it roughly, it will break. The area around the jack in particular is the most sensitive. I don't know why they don't make the cable a bit longer and much more durable. Alternatively they could find some way to make the cable completely detachable and replaceable like some other brands. At least then I could just buy a new cable without having to attempt a repair job or buy a whole new set. That being said, saving my hearing is worth the hassle and cost. Highly recommended for anyone who uses an iPhone or iPod in a loud environment.</span> June 3, 2013<meta itemprop="datePublished" content="2013-06-03" /></div> </div><!--end-reviews--> <script type="text/javascript">document.getElementById('BVRRReviewsSoiSectionID_25D193').style.display = 'none';</script></div><!--begin-pagination--><div class="BVRRPager BVRRPageBasedPager"><span class="BVRRPageLink BVRRPageNumber"> <a href="http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/itemDetailsRender.shtml?seoUrl=ETYMOTIC-Mobile-Headset-Earphones-25D193&ItemKey=25D193&bvrrp=5049-en_us/reviews/product/2/25D193.htm" title="2" class="BVPageLink">2</a></span><span class="BVRRPageLink BVRRNextPage"><a href="http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/itemDetailsRender.shtml?seoUrl=ETYMOTIC-Mobile-Headset-Earphones-25D193&ItemKey=25D193&bvrrp=5049-en_us/reviews/product/2/25D193.htm" title="next" class="BVPageLink">next</a></span><span class="BVRRPagerArrows">&gt;&gt;</span> </div><!--end-pagination--> </div></div>
